RON SIMS

Ron Sims has been regularly exhibiting his work, which is held in both public and private collections, for over 40 years. The psychological implications of turning soft imagery into a hard-edge, geometrical representation are a vital element in his work, - ideas which were evolved in the Life Drawing Room at the Royal Academy Schools as a post-graduate art student.

In paintings and prints there are fine-tuned, and sometimes discordant relationships between colours and tones, where tension and conflicts are unified by the geometric shapes and hard edges enclosing them, along with three-dimensional effects. Designs are explored with incongruous and unusual ideas, continuous explorations of form, and anthropomorphic qualities, which animates the inanimate. Photo-montage is used in printmaking, often within a hard-edge framework, relating to earlier designs which had a Pop-Art influence.
